Build your STEM skills by playing Dungeons & Dragonflies in our afterschool club! Our club is geared toward middle-school students and is free, although it requires registration and regular attendance. Clubs are limited to 5 participants each, and all clubs are managed by our very own CeMaST Dungeon Master, Kate Evans. Kate is a doctoral student in biology at Illinois State University and an avid board game player. She creates unique D&D storylines for our clubs so that you have fun and learn a bit of math and science along the way.
Parents, are you skeptical of the educational value of D&D? Check out this article! We make every effort to keep your child safe online. Kate was required to complete a criminal background check and mandatory reporter training at hiring. Clubs will be administered through the website Roll 20, which requires account creation. Once registered, Kate will send a club code to you and your child for them to join the club. The club will be private so that no others will be able to join the club. Because D&D involves kids in constructing the game's story together, and because the story is ongoing, regular attendance and participation are necessary.
Technical Requirements: Participation in our D&D clubs requires a computer and an Internet connection. D&D game accessories (dice, miniatures) are optional. Due to restrictions placed on school district devices, district-owned Chromebooks that your child uses for school will not allow access to the necessary website, so a different computer will be needed. Clubs will be administered through the website Roll20, which requires account creation.
Clubs start in February and run through the first week of May. All clubs run from 6:00-7:30 pm, every Wednesday.
